Embryo Act

Scientific research with embryos, a foetus, and/or with gametes used to create embryos is covered by the Embryo Act. You can read more about the scope of the Embryo Act on the Research with gametes and/or (leftover) embryos and the foetus page. Research covered by the Embryo Act must, depending on the type of research, be reviewed beforehand by an accredited MREC or the CCMO. Research with gametes that are not used to create embryos, whereby the gametes have to be made available specially for the research, is covered by the WMO review regime and must be assessed in advance by the CCMO.
